Bite The Bullet

Sometimes you just need to bite the bullet. When things go awry, it's natural to search solutions to distract yourself or just hope it just goes away eventually. I mean, who doesn't want their problems to just away! I know I do! But what's necessary and the hardest thing to do, is to actually stare the problem in the face and acknowledge it happened.

It’s natural to search solutions to distract yourself or just hope it just goes away eventually.

A few months ago I had a hard drive issue that resulted in loosing several important - and unfinished - projects. By the time I realized it was a serious problem, I had already passed the point of pretending it wasn't real and was deep into the abyss that is Reddit. I spent hours upon hours trying to recover the files and think of ways to redo the projects. But as the weeks went on, I realized that what I really needed to do was bite the bullet and tell my clients what was going on. That was truly the only way to move forward and problem solve!

Bit the bullet and have them. You’ll be happy you did.

And although it was incredibly tough ... it was needed. Many tears and Netflix specials later, I'm at peace with what happened. And at this point, I'm actually grateful it happened. It taught me to take ownership of my business and learn the value of my own word. Telling the truth, no matter how bad it hurts, is always the best thing to do.

As a photographer I live in a world of smoke and mirrors, but accidents still happen and real conversations still need to be had. Bit the bullet and have them. You'll be happy you did.
